Possible to have mods?

Just started playing Minecraft (again) after having played many of the mod packs.

A few things I do miss .. NEI and my map.
With the FTB launcher it is easy to see the mods and know which ones are enabled.

Does anyone know if it is possible in Survival for an individual to add in mods?
Does anyone know if there is a minimap / map mod that will work with 1.8? (Dont think NEI is available yet in 1.8).
What Launcher is needed?

We do have modpack servers in which you can use our custom launcher (https://lolnet.co.nz/LolnetLauncher.jar)

Survival is made to be mod free (server side anyway). If you do install client mods make sure they are not breaking the rules of lolnet.

You are right, NotEnoughItems is not yet at 1.8 (offical download link http://chickenbones.net/Pages/links.html)

Most mods are still in 1.7.10 and are still trying to be updated to 1.8.

There are some 1.8 mods around but I would give it another month.

1.8 forge is still alpha so the only mods that i know are fully updated and working are a few server side only mods
