How far do you go for a de-spawn

Hi, I was wondering how far you could go away from a hostile mob like a Zombie, Skeleton, etc, before it de-spawns?
I have noticed that the rules for de-spawn seem to be different for the nether, for example, when I /home from my skeleton xp farm, and then /back all the skeletons there would have de-spawned, however if i do the same thing at my blaze farm, the blazes remain...

Anyone know anything about this? nnewman said he would ask cptwin, so if no one adds anything to the thread by the time he nnewman gets back to me I'll post up what he says.

I have quite a good explanation for you about this. Ok so the reason why whenever you type /home when you're fighting blazes and then when you tp back, you see they haven't despawned is because you're going from 1 dimension to another. Because when you unload the nether, eg: go through a Nether Portal close to Entities or tping out of the Nether into the Overworld, anything that was there when you left will be unloaded as well. So basicly, a simple explanation of this is that when you exit the Nether via Portals or Tping near Entities, those chunks and everything inside them will virtually freeze. So nothing changes or moves while they're in unloaded chunks in the Nether. Thats why some expert Minecraft players take advantage of this and try to send Items or Mobs through Portals to store them. This method is really effective to kill mobs at large quantities in the Nether or move Items to so when you've killed enough in the Overworld, you can go pick it up when you go through the Portal. But as long as you don't load those Chunks, they will never Despawn. This is the Same with the End BTW. Nothing will despawn until you reload and walk away from those Chunks in the Nether. Unlike the Overworld, where you're still Tping to the same dimension so everything in the chunks you were in before (Not items though even though they are considered by the game as Entities) will despawn and then those chunks freeze as well until you tp or walk back to them.
Hope this helped answer your question Chipsz

P.S: Please remove that Sand, Clay and Dirt house at the base of the Mountain where Bboylol15 and Daxern's Castle is. It's really bugging me cause I live near them and I really don't Tolerate builds like that.

I think its 128 blocks

Correct, however in my experience with a particular Zombie it would seem to be shorter for the lolnet server.

Hey man, the sign said no dirt houses.... so I used other earthly things tehehe... and you forgot the trees i planted on it tehehe! But yeah, sure thing mate, I was being quite cheeky ;) thanks for not being a dick about it, that means to me that you must be pretty cool, i will remove the house as soon as I am on next, which will be fairly soon.

I don't understand how people can blow things up, coz explosion is disabled unless you enable it, plus, if its claimed no one can mess with it.. ?

Nice to meet you by the way danthemab I'd like to show you my house some time, I live up a mountain also :D
